Old Library F.4.42, “Rustic Almanac”
MANY BEAUTIFUL, INTRIGUING AND CURIOUS manuscripts housed in the Old Library at Magdalene College Cambridge will be on display for a unique exhibition on 13th-14th June. The Old Library (which is distinct from the College’s famous Pepys Library) includes medieval, early modern and twentieth century manuscripts, many of which are exhibited for the first time. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE a collection of decorative medieval Bibles and Psalters, the “Crowland” Apocalypse, Caxton’s Ovid Moralisée, Daniel Waterland’s advice to students in 1715, Hardy, Kipling and Eliot manuscripts of poetry, A.C. Benson’s famous diary, and letters written by the mountaineer George Mallory.

ENTRY IS FREE OF CHARGE. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate groups over 10 in number, so larger groups are asked to contact us in advance. Part of the exhibition is accessed by steps and it would be helpful if wheelchair users contacted us in advance on 01223 332100.
THE EXHIBITION CATALOGUE, written by the Pepys Librarian and curator of the exhibition, M. E. J. Hughes, will be available for purchase. For those who are unable to join us the catalogue will be available (£2.50 plus p &p) after the exhibition. Email litfest@magd.cam.ac.uk
